Growing up in Scarsdale, Wesley White remembers the big draw in Larchmont: The Sweet Shop, a candy store at the corner of Palmer and Larchmont Avenues. He longed to re-create an old fashioned ice cream store with a soda fountain and table service.
So he bought the Larchmont Longford’s store a few weeks ago.
He says it will soon be transformed into The Ice Cream Parlour. “And over the next three years,” says White, “we will move back in time to about 1920.”
“An old fashioned American soda fountain is what we’re shooting for.”
The first phase should complete in about a month–if you’ve been in there, you’ll see there’s definitely something going on– and with his father and sister, White will eventually bring in ice cream from small producers to carry out or order at marble tables and cafe chairs.
“It’s all in the presentation,” says White, who had an ice cream parlor in New Haven. “We want people to take 10 minutes for ice cream brought to you in a tin dish with a fan cookie, and to make it feel special.”
